Update on Dance Company Posters/Ads

Update on the artwork for my tattooed dancers. They're going to be the imagery for three dance company posters/ads promoting the new Fall season. Stay tuned and check out my new website as well to see the finished products (up this coming Friday).

Update on Woodland Collection

Here's the finished products of my Woodland Collection featuring some adorable baby animals. They're now a pack of postcards and are just too cute not to continue with :) I'll do probably two more series or 6 more images to have a decent body of work, then look into printing them for sale on Etsy or local retailers.

By the way, my official website (more design focused, for now I'll keep this blog for illustration and fine art purposes) is now up! All the work is still being uploaded for another week or two, but check it out nevertheless!

Tattoo Dancers

So these guys are part of a new project I'm working on for my portfolio. I graduate in 6 weeks yesterday (YIKES!!) and am steadily producing more work. However, with my lean towards design, I'm doing less traditional illustration (although I'll never give it up, just has to take a sabbatical right now) and more digital work. My design website will be up and running around March 25th, so go visit it around then at www.colleenkeith.com if you want to see my graphic design work.

These will be a series of posters for a fictional dance company. The focus is on movement and the body, as all dance is. The clothes are knocked back and the musculature has been enhanced and decorated to emphasis their forms. I'll be adding color soon, as well as the company logo and information for the final designs. I'll post those at the end of the month.

Also, if you're in the Vancouver area and want to come out and meet me or see my work up close, my grad show will be on at Harbour Centre at 555 Hastings Street from April 18-21. Here's our website holding page, check back on the 25th to see it up in all it's glory! We've got a GREAT theme this year :D

Woodland Creatures

It's been SO long, I know. My apologies. Any work I've done since my last post has mostly been design work, which I'm not going to be posting on here (despite the name of my blog...shall change that). I'll soon have a personal portfolio website/blog that will house my design work, and maybe my illustration work as well. If that happens, I'll let you know in advance so you can switch over to that one (it will be www.colleenkeith.com).

Anyways, here's some new little guys for you to check out! They're for a postcard project I'm working on, and who knows, I may even print them for REAL someday :) Would love to do it with letter press if budget allows. These are not finished designs, they still need a bit of work and a touch of color. Will upload finished designs when I'm done.

Flyleaf Illustration

Freestyle illustration done based on the band Flyleaf (which may or may not be a Christian Rock band. I wasn't aware of it and apparently they themselves are undecided). This is their lead singer and I just did whatever I felt like doing and it was super fun! Love it :) I should freestyle more often.

If Nature dies, you die too. So be GREEN already!!

First (failed) attempt

Second (more successful) attempt

Cultural Declaration piece about the environment for Advanced Illustration class. There were some AMAZING works coming out of my classmates, but you unfortunately get to only see mine, which I'm quite happy with (once I started over).

As you can see, the first just had too many colors that started to get muddy and you just lost a lot of the imagery. Was just working it too much.

The second one is more striking with the minimal and strong colors. The whole concept can speak in different ways. The figure (recognize her??) can be seen as human or as a depiction of Mother Nature. Faintly in the background, there are plants dying all around her. One last one is trying to make it's way to life, but some of the hurt and bleeding is starting to seep into it's soil. We are tied to the earth, and as we slowly poison and kill it, we kill ourselves. I don't want it to be optional, I want this image to say "This will happen. Save the earth and save yourselves".

Comments made in class today gave me ideas to strengthen the imagery, so if I ever rework it, I will post it again.

"The Landlady", by Roald Dahl

These illustrations are meant to accompany a publication of "The Landlady" by Roald Dahl. I tried doing a different style a la Simona Cordero, and kind of accomplished it. While they are cute, they don't really accomplish the odd and eventually creepy and sinister mood of this story. So yes...tried something new, good practice, wouldn't have worked in real life. Yay me!
